Dead Man in the Water

The captain called me to his quarters late last night
He sat me there before the looking glass and shaved my beard
And I stared at a face I barely knew
And I wept for the lives I had taken

We are all reflections of the lonely sea
Drop a dead man in the water and watch the current carry him home

The lighthouse light is on
But the attendant's all alone
And the cry of S.O.S. began to sound about an hour ago
The ship is under sea
And all the crew is lost
But watery grave you think you see a face you swear you know

All across the land
These murderous hands
Are stealing life and limb away from folk that they don't care to know
We all shall die
Just for waking up alive
But when the band begins to play and trumpets sound we all will find

That we are all reflections of the lonely sea
Drop a dead man in the water and watch the current carry him home
We are all just singers of the shanty
Drop a dead man in the water and watch the current carry him home
