Send the Devil Running Home

I was floating down the river on a raft I made from trees
Singin' stories to the fishes as I smoked some good pipe weed
When I came to a town where they didn't know my name
So I tied up on the shoreline and I practiced as I pleased

I wrestled with a serpent and I walked away with pain
And it left me with a set of nasty holes
I spent thirty-one days sober and I'm glad that it is over
And It's good to see the devil's runnin' home

I went sailing on the waters of the seven lonely seas
Had my share of lovely ladies and they're all expecting me
To return to the port where they'll beckon me to wed
But I'll tell you where you'll find me when they lay this soul to rest

I'll be down among the islands where the skeletons can fly
And the coffee tastes like sugar cane and bones
I'll build a small cabana and I'll lay there with my hand upon
The Book that sent the devil runnin' home

I have traveled without a lantern and each time I hit a reef
But the sirens in the water they always bring me peace
